Industrial alpinism
Industrial mountaineering is a method of performing high-altitude work (or a method of accessing a workplace at a height) using special equipment, in which the contractor is located in an unsupported space.
Industrial mountaineering involves special training of the spider, including knowledge and skills that ensure its safety when working at height.
Advantages of the industrial mountaineering method:
- more low risk in comparison with other methods of performing high-altitude work;
- the possibility of access to the work area with minimal costs and in such places where it is impossible or economically impractical to cope with other means;
- maximum mobility due to the minimum amount of equipment;
- the ability to quickly leave the work area in case of adverse weather or other suddenly arising hindering conditions.

The International Trade Association for Industrial Mountaineering (IRATA) has developed a rope access system that minimizes the risk of falling from a height. This system is described in a document called “Code of Practice” or “Rules and regulations for the implementation of high-altitude work.” This system, the main principle of which is the rule of two points of support, according to the organization IRATA, has allowed to significantly reduce the number of accidents when working at height. In addition, the work according to the described method makes the work of an industrial mountaineer safer than working on forests or lifting mechanisms. Industrial mountaineering competitions
The scope of application of the method of industrial mountaineering.
Work using industrial mountaineering is used wherever it is economically advantageous. The most common ones should be listed: facade works (plastering, painting, thermal insulation, window cleaning, sealing, waterproofing), installation work (advertising, ventilated facade, ebb, canopies), de-installation work (knocking down bricks, tiles), non-destructive testing, glazing, rigging, arboristics, saving people and animals and so on.
